Bacary Sagna was booed by Arsenal fans as he faced his former club for the first time since his exit in the summer of 2014.
The Manchester City right-back was jeered by a section of the home supporters whenever he touched the ball in the early exchanges of Monday night’s top-of-the-table clash at Emirates Stadium.
Sagna’s name was also booed when the team sheets were read out by the stadium announcer before kick-off.
It was the first time that the Frenchman had faced Arsenal since he joined City on a free transfer 18 months ago.
Gunners supporters were angry at the time that the defender rejected the offer of an Arsenal contract to move to Etihad Stadium for more money.
Sagna was an unused substitute in both Arsenal-City clashes last season, when Pablo Zabaleta was the first-choice right-back.
But Sagna has been a first-team regular this season, due to the lengthy injury-enforced absence of the Argentine.
