Salah will ‘100% sign deal’ after update on Liverpool talks – Phillips

Kevin Phillips has insisted Mohamed Salah will put pen to paper on renewed terms at Liverpool despite a continued contract standoff.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old Egyptian is “one of the best players in the world”.

This site revealed today (11 December) that Liverpool are increasingly hopeful of agreeing a new long-term contract with Salah – with owners Fenway Sports Group wanting a deal in place by 1 January.

That news comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 October that the Reds talisman is demanding an extraordinary £500,000-a-week contract to stay at Anfield.

Manager Jurgen Klopp, as quoted by the Guardian on 6 December, insisted the impasse in negotiations is “completely normal” for a player of Salah’s stature.

Phillips suggested Klopp’s comments will do little to quell the fears of Liverpool fans.

“That statement won’t calm the Liverpool fans down. The only way to do that is to have him put pen to paper,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’ll be on tenterhooks until they see the breaking news come out which confirms he will stay at the club.

“I think everyone, even the neutral fans, wants to see him stay in the Premier League, he’s one of the best players in the world.

“100 per cent, he will sign the contract, I’m sure, I can’t see him leaving – where would he go? He’ll want to stay in England.”
