Sandro Tonali could leave Newcastle soon as talks planned amid strong transfer interest

Sandro Tonali is potentially facing an uncertain future at Newcastle United as interest in his services is mounting.

The Italian has been an integral part of Eddie Howe’s plans so far this term, as he has already started in 15 of his team’s opening 18 Premier League games.

Tonali’s contract extension at Newcastle was confirmed back in October, and while he is now due to stay at St James’ Park until at least 2029, that has done little to prevent prying glances from elsewhere.

The midfielder has been back to his best for Newcastle so far in 2025-26, but that could be set to cause them problems in the coming months.

Luciano Spalletti pushing to take Sandro Tonali to Juventus

Juventus showed an interest in signing Tonali from Newcastle in the latter stages of the summer, and their desire to land him doesn’t appear to have cooled at all ahead of January.

The Magpies star has become an important player for Italy’s national team throughout 2024 and 2025, and that has seemingly prompted interest in him in his homeland.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is now understood to be pushing hard to sign Tonali, who he feels is the “perfect” playmaker for his team, according to Italian outlet Sport Virgilio.

The 66-year-old is a keen admirer of the Newcastle star, but there is concern among the Juventus hierarchy that a deal to sign him will be “difficult to complete” in January due to the finances that would be involved.

Instead the possibility of opening negotiations next summer has been planned as a potential “solution” to the problems posed by the winter window.

Newcastle already have Sandro Tonali replacement in their squad

Lewis Miley is developing well at Newcastle, and he has already received comparisons with Steven Gerrard after an excellent start to the campaign.

There is no mistaking that the potential departure of Tonali would be a major blow for the Tynesiders, but the performances of their homegrown starlet would surely tempt them not to spend big on a replacement.

Miley already has three goal contributions from just seven starts in the Premier League this term, but it will undoubtedly be difficult for him to break into the trio of Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

However, if Tonali were to leave in the summer then it would open the door for him to become an integral part of Howe’s plans.

The 19-year-old is tipped to have a huge future ahead of him, and the departure of one of that midfield trio could be the catalyst that he needs to take his game to the next level.
