Sandro Tonali’s best moments at Newcastle United as new contract details emerge

Newcastle United supporters will be celebrating the news of Sandro Tonali’s brand-new contract at St James’ Park.

Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Newcastle were in talks with Tonali over a new deal, but it has now been revealed that the player put pen to paper during his betting-related suspension.

It is understood that the 25-year-old has secured his future until 2029, with the option of an additional year, and fans are overjoyed by the news coming out of St James’ Park.

Football Insider understands that Bruno Guimaraes is content at Newcastle, with Eddie Howe continuing his quest to build something special with the Magpies, especially after lifting the Carabao Cup.

With Tonali’s news in mind, Football Insider has taken a look at his best moments in a Newcastle shirt.

Carabao Cup quarter-final vs Brentford (18 December 2024)

During the Magpies’ incredible run to the Carabao Cup final, before beating Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, the Italy international played a crucial role in the club getting to that position.

Against Brentford in the quarter-finals, he got St James’ Park absolutely bouncing with the opener from outside the box, then doubled the lead with a deft volley straight from a corner.

Fabian Schar netted a third for the home side before Yoane Wissa netted a late consolation goal, but that meant very little to the team, who were on their way to the final. Little did they know, silverware was on the horizon.

Once again stinging the Bees, Tonali scored a goal-of-the-season contender from an incredibly tight angle, completely catching Mark Flekken by surprise in front of the home fans.

It would be difficult to find a sweeter hit ball during the 2024-25 campaign, and it turned out to be the winner, with the other goals coming from Alexander Isak and Bryan Mbeumo.

Key goal in the race for Champions League qualification (11 May 2025)

Champions League qualification was never a guarantee for Newcastle during the 2024-25 campaign, but Tonali certainly took it upon himself to nudge his team one step closer to the goal.

Nicolas Jackson was sent off for elbowing Sven Botman, but long before that, the Italian midfielder had already opened the scoring inside three minutes, sending the stadium absolutely crazy.

There was never a way back for the Blues, and with Howe’s side finishing above Aston Villa in the Premier League table on goal difference, his impact made a vital difference to their entire season.
