Christian Eriksen had Tottenham fans purring on social media as he helped Denmark overcome Republic of Ireland to qualify for the World Cup.

The attacking midfielder scored a hat-trick which contributed to Denmark walking out of 5-1 winners in the second leg of their World Cup qualifier against Republic of Ireland.

The first leg of the tie ended in a 0-0 draw with the Tottenham midfielder unable to influence the game.

However, there was no stopping the Danish international in the second leg as he made the most of the space he found himself in.

The midfielder will now be representing his nation at his second World Cup, having also featured for Denmark during the 2010 World Cup.

In 2010 Eriksen’s team failed to make it out of the group stage, and then went on to fail to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 25-year-old has already been a crucial member of Spurs’ team this season, scoring four goals and four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

Tottenham fans will now be hoping the creative playmaker’s momentum from his international outing will continue into their next game against Arsenal.

Tottenham go into the north London Derby on November 18, third in the table, four points clear of their bitter rivals who are in sixth.
