Scots pundit drops ‘big’ Donny van de Beek to Celtic claim

A move to Celtic could revitalise Donny van de Beek’s footballing career.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said Van de Beek’s wages will be a “big” hurdle in the Hoops’ attempts to agree a deal.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a sensational loan move to Parkhead for the 2023-24 campaign after struggling for minutes at Man United.

The midfielder spent last season with Everton after finding it difficult to make his mark on the Red Devils following his arrival in 2020.

His current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025

According to footballscotland (13 July), Brendan Rodgers’ side have not made contact over a move for the Dutch international.

But Hutton suggested although a deal would be difficult, it could be the perfect temporary option for Van de Beek.

This is a guy with all the talent and it has just not quite happened for him in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.

He still has a lot of football in front of him. If Celtic can get a hold of him, I think it would be an outstanding signing.

He is very talented, has played at a high level for his whole career, came through at Ajax. He has just had a hard couple of seasons and he probably just needs an arm around him, something that Brendan would probably do.

The big factor here is wages, he has probably still got two or three years left at Man United on £100k-a-week.

Celtic

For a guy who has had a difficult couple of seasons, getting to play in the Champions League, in front of 50,000 fans, winning things, that could spur him on to the next level that he needs.

It would be a difficult one to get over the line I think he would need a lot of convincing.
