Scott Brown: Celtic told to complete ‘great move’ after Instagram reveal – pundit
It would be a “very good and wise move” from Celtic if they welcomed back Scott Brown in a coaching or ambassadorial role.
That is the view of ex-England and Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Brown’s exit from Aberdeen opened the door on a Parkhead return.
The 36-year-old left his player-coach role at Aberdeen last week after Jim Goodwin replaced Stephen Glass as manager and revealed via Instagram last week (11 March) he would take some time before taking his next step.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, as quoted by Sky Sports last Thursday (10 March), claimed Brown “will always be welcome” at the club he spent 14 years at as a player, including over 10 as captain.
“I’ve said all along these players that have been great servants for the football club should be given opportunities,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ewan Kingsbury.
“You can’t just give them a coaching role without them doing the right coaching badges etc.
“Whether it’s a coaching role or an ambassadorial role just around the ground on match days, they should be welcomed back and given some sort of role.
“It would be great for Scott Brown, he’s an experienced player with knowledge and experience to give to young players in the squad which would be invaluable.
“It would be a very good and wise move from the club’s point of view.”

Brown played over 600 times across all competitions for Celtic in his spell as a player.
He made 33 appearances for Aberdeen this season before his contract was terminated.
