Scott McDonald: Celtic could pay the price for this transfer blunder

By Danny Wright

Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald believes that Brendan Rodgers might pay the price for not bringing in a new striker this summer.

The Bhoys currently have just two traditional forwards in the first-team, but both Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele are sidelined with injuries.

The duo, despite scoring plenty of goals, also had their spells on the sidelines last season, and McDonald, 33, reckons that was a warning for Rodgers, who faces the prospect of his side slumping out of the Champions League on Wednesday if they lose in Norway.

Celtic travel to Rosenborg having failed to find the net against them at Parkhead last week as Tom Rogic was drafted in to fill the void up front.

McDonald, now at Dundee United, has suggested that the lack of activity in bringing in a third-choice striker could lead to being a bit of a blunder on Rodgers’ behalf.

“There’s no question Celtic could do with another striker,” said the former Australia international, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Both Moussa and Leigh have had their injury problems in the last 12 months, so not bringing someone else in was a risk, especially when you consider the money at stake.

“Brendan’s motto is quality not quantity but he could have done with some back-up in that department.”

Celtic had a very frustrating time against Rosenborg in Glasgow last week as the match ended as a goalless draw.

If the Hoops manage to find the net in Norway on Wednesday, it will give them a huge away goal advantage which could see them qualify for the next round even with a draw.

In other Celtic news, Scott Brown has claimed that he has seen this 34-year-old at the Bhoys’ training ground ahead of a supposed move to Glasgow.
