Scott McTominay posts message as two Man United stars close in on Napoli transfers
Napoli have unlocked Scott McTominay’s potential over the last 12 months and could do the same for two more unfavoured Man United players.
McTominay’s Deadline Day transfer to Napoli last August has proven to be a hugely successful move for the Scotland international, and culminated with only the fourth Serie A title win in the club’s history.
Antonio Conte‘s side beat Inter Milan to the Scudetto by a single point with McTominay racking up 18 goal contributions in total, and his 12 crucial strikes have helped the Scot become a cult hero in Naples.
Napoli have strengthened ahead of their title defence with the addition of Kevin De Bruyne from Man City on a free transfer, but they could also bring in some of McTominay’s former team-mates from the other side of Manchester.

McTominay sends ‘back’ message amid Napoli transfer news
McTominay hadn’t fallen out of favour and form to the extent that Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund have at United prior to his move to Napoli, but the trio could soon be reunited away from Old Trafford.
Conte could offer Sancho a surprise exit route from Man United with plans to play him alongside Romelu Lukaku, who could also be supplemented in attack by the potential addition of Hojlund next season.
The Premier League flavour continues further back in Conte’s team with McTominay and his Scotland compatriot Billy Gilmour occupying the midfield after the latter’s own move from Brighton last summer.
McTominay posed on his Instagram story (15 July) alongside Gilmour as the pair returned to pre-season training with Napoli this week, and captioned his post with the message of: “We are back”.

Man United exodus to continue as Napoli interest ramps up
Football Insider Verdict
McTominay’s explosion in form over the last 12 months certainly makes Napoli an attractive destination players like Hojlund, who has expressed a desire to complete a permanent return to Serie A this summer.
Sancho’s massive wages have already put paid to his pre-agreed move to Chelsea after last season’s loan move, and Man United will likely have to stomach paying a large portion if he does move to Napoli.
United did earn a pure PSR profit from McTominay’s sale as an academy product, but with Hojlund’s form on the downturn and Sancho banished from first-team training, Ruben Amorim won’t want to turn down any approaches for the duo.
