Scott Minto explains what Tottenham need to do to secure a Champions League place

By Amir Mir

Scott Minto has stated that Tottenham need to beat teams like Stoke if they are to secure a Champions League place this season.

Spurs are currently sitting in the top four, but only two points separate Mauricio Pochettino’s side to sixth-placed Manchester United.

Mark Hughes’ Stoke will travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon hoping to disturb their Champions League challenge.

Dropped points by the north London club could see fifth-placed Liverpool overtake them in the table if they can beat Leicester City on Monday night.

Ahead of the weekend fixture, Sky Sports pundit, Minto backed Pochettino’s side to pick up a valuable three points.

“Just two points separate Tottenham in second and Manchester United in sixth,” Minto told Coral’s official Youtube account. “But, these are the type of games that while there is still plenty from now and till the end of the season where if you do lose you will look back and say ‘that’s why we finished in the Europa League position instead of a Champions League one’.

“Spurs know they need to do it to keep the pressure on those around them. It’s a Spurs win and a win to nil.”

This will be an important match for Tottenham and their confidence after they were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Since their last Premer League game, where they were beaten at Liverpool, Spurs have played three matches while Stoke have had no matches.

This could prove to be significant on Sunday as star striker Harry Kane, who netted a hat-trick against Fulham last week in the FA Cup, will be looking to continue his good form up front.

However, England international Kane played the full match against Gent and was unfortunate to head the ball into his own net.

Kane has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, 14 of those goals have come in the Premier League, including one against Stoke during the reverse fixture in September.

In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp has made this bold statement about Spurs which will thrill the fans.
