Aston Villa are set to face a stern test on Saturday afternoon when they welcome promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday to the Midlands.
Carlos Carvalhal has built a strong team in Yorkshire that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season and is looking to go one better this term.
Here, Football Insider delivers an insight into Villa’s latest opponents and the three players they should watch out for on the day.
He scored for Wednesday when they beat Villa on the opening day of the Championship season and he is a player that always likes to get into dangerous positions. The Villa backline will be in for a tough day because the Italian can run at you, cause problems in the air or drag you out of position. Forestieri is perhaps the club’s best player and when he gets going it really lifts his teammates.
A former Villa player who came through the system and played a number of games for the senior team when they were a Premier League club. Bannan would more than likely get into the Villa starting XI today and his energetic style sums up how the opposition like to play. Non-stop energy in attack and defence added with the quality to pick out a pass and beat players is what the Wednesday midfield and Bannan can produce.
The 27-year-old is currently on loan at the Yorkshire club from Premier League side Middlesbrough. However, that story could have been a lot different with Villa showing heavy interest in the striker during January. Nonetheless, Rhodes provides a poacher’s instinct and will feed off anything the likes of Forestieri and Bannan provide. The Villa centre-back duo will also be in for an aerial battle on the day because Rhodes likes to score all types of goals.
