Seamus Coleman backed to agree new Everton deal

Everton plan to extend Seamus Coleman’s tenure at the club and could offer him an off-field role this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Coleman is on a long list of Everton players who face uncertain futures at the end of the season, with seven other Toffees stars out of contract and none of their five loanees signed up to permanent deals.

Just five of the Irishman’s 427 Everton appearances have come this season amid a spate of injuries, but sources have told Football Insider that the Toffees are keen to “reward” Coleman for his long service.

David Moyes‘ side make the historic move across Liverpool to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock this summer, and The Friedkin Group are keen to ensure a smooth transition from Goodison Park.

Now, Football Insider sources have said Coleman wants to lead Everton into their new home and that sentiment is reflected by the hierarchy, who are keen to retain their skipper’s services in some capacity.

Coleman set for new Everton role amid contract talks

Football Insider revealed on 11 May that Coleman’s fellow veteran Ashley Young won’t be offered a new contract at the end of the season, but Everton feel very differently about their long-time captain.

With Coleman set to turn 37 in October and in his game-time reduced across the past three seasons, Football Insider sources have said that he could take up a new role as a player-coach next term.

Coleman is yet to retire from international duty, let alone football altogether, but with Everton keen to keep him in the fold in a mixed on-field and off-field capacity, he now faces a big decision this summer.

Everton leave it late to settle contract disputes

With Coleman likely to be retained this summer, if not as a member of Moyes’ first-team squad, Everton have several other names to tick off the list as a plethora of players approach the end of their deals.

Football Insider revealed last month that as well as the likely exits of Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure, Michael Keane will “definitely” leave Everton as a free agent this summer as Moyes rebuilds his defence.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has long since been a lightning rod for Toffees fans’ criticism, and despite poor form and injury struggles this season, his own contract saga is set to rumble on with Everton “pushing” their number nine to sign a new deal.
