Sean Dyche ‘already in trouble’ after £40m Everton transfer update – pundit

Sean Dyche is “already in trouble” as the new Everton boss as he tries to overhaul his new squad.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ transfer plans.

On Friday, sources told Football Insider that Sean Dyche has an agreement in principle to be the new Everton manager after Marcelo Bielsa was heavily linked with the job.

The ex-Burnley boss has mere days to make changes to his new squad as he prepares for a relegation battle.

With Anthony Gordon nearing a £40million move to Newcastle, the i reports all of that fee will be given to Dyche with the club looking to sign “three or four” players before Tuesday’s cut-off.

McManus can’t see many players arriving.

“Say you sell Gordon for £40million, that’s not a lot to overhaul a squad, especially when you have less than a week to do it,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“You’re already in trouble at that point. You have to speak to the agents and the players, I doubt that has been going on behind the scenes because everyone has been so focused on getting a new manager in.

“So you’re looking to bring in at least three players in maybe five days when there is a full set of fixtures at the weekend.

“The first one will be replacing Gordon, which may not be that hard to do based on his output this season. You need a top striker who is going to score goals.

“Can they get one in for, what, £20million and pull it off in a few days? It would be incredible if they could but everything we have seen from that club in the last few years suggests they won’t.

“I do wonder what state Everton will be in come Wednesday.

“Maybe they will get two, at a push.”
