Sean Dyche sacking: Finance expert suggests Everton ‘termination’ fee
Everton are unlikely to have paid out Sean Dyche until the end of his contract following his sacking at Goodison Park.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants likely agreed a termination fee with their former manager when he signed his deal.
Everton decided to sack Dyche on Thursday (9 January), just hours before they hosted Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Times reported on 11 January The Friedkin Group (TFG) – the club’s new owners – believed the 53-year-old had “given up” and did not want to pay him for the remainder of his contract, which was due to expire in June this year.
David Moyes has now been reappointed as Everton manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal, having returned to Goodison following his departure for Manchester United 12 years ago.
Everton likely already agreed Sean Dyche compensation package
Borson admitted the days of paying up a manager’s full contract are gone after Dyche’s sacking.
“I’m sure his compensation package is outlined in his contract quite specifically,” Borson told Football Insider.
“I think the days of teams paying up to the end of a contract are gone.
“What tends to happen is that they are capped out or there is a liquidated damages clause, which is quite a specific amount that’s paid in the event of a termination.

“I don’t think in the grand scheme of things the compensation is going to be very material given the costs that have gone through Everton over the last two or three years.
“They are very tight on PSR, particularly pending the situation with the interest case.”
