Sean Dyche to Rangers: ‘He’s dealt with 10 times worse at Everton’

Philippe Clement has come under extensive pressure over his position as Rangers manager following a disastrous season so far.

That pressure has been piled on in the wake of their shock 2-0 defeat to St Mirren on 22 February, just weeks after they were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Queens Park.

Rangers remains 13 points behind Celtic in the SPFL, failed to win either domestic cup competition, and will now face Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

However, ongoing calls for the manager to be sacked have come amid a period of unrest and uncertainty behind the scenes at Ibrox.

Financial difficulties have restricted their transfer spending, while numerous backroom and board changes have created a feeling of uncertainty.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 22 February that former Everton boss Sean Dyche would be a “brilliant” Clement replacement at Rangers.

Now, Robinson has explained that the manager’s experience dealing with numerous off-field issues while keeping his team on track make him the ideal option.

Sean Dyche emerges as ideal Philippe Clement replacement at Rangers

During Dyche’s spell at Goodison Park, Everton suffered multiple points deductions and heavy financial restrictions as a result of profit and sustainability breaches.

However, the manager consistently got the best out of the players available to him, ensuring their Premier League safety despite complaints about his style.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that his experience dealing with a difficult off-field situation should allow him to slot in at Rangers with minimal fuss to carry out his job.

There are a lot of problems off the pitch at Rangers,” he told Football Insider.

“With Patrick Stewart in there, he’s refused to guarantee the manager’s future despite saying that the diamond bullet isn’t to sack him immediately.

“I think there’s so much unrest and unsettlement off the field.

“Look at what Dyche has had to cope with at Everton over the last two years.

“It may not be the appointment that Rangers fans want or will be looking forward to the style of football that they’re going to get.

“But actually, with the way the club is at the moment, Sean Dyche has dealt with ten times worse that that during his time at Everton.

“It could be a good fit. I don’t think it would excite them, though.”

Philippe Clement future at Ibrox to be decided after takeover latest

Despite the growing pressure on Clement’s position as manager, there have been suggestions that he could remain in the job for a while longer yet.

Leeds United co-owners 49ers Enterprises are in advanced talks to buy Rangers, and many believe the boss could remain in charge until the takeover is completed.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 10 February that Clement will not be sacked by Rangers while they remain in the Europa League.

The Glasgow outfit are hopeful of continued progress in Europe despite their domestic struggles, and are backing the manager to continue to help them progress.
