‘Sell ASAP’ – Arsenal fans destroy ‘double-decker bus’ after starter’s display vs Wolves

Arsenal supporters are furious with one player after Mikel Arteta’s side struggled in their win over Wolves at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta lost Ben White to injury after just 31 minutes, and that summed up the Gunners’ first half against the Old Gold, as neither side could break the deadlock before half-time on Saturday, 13 December.

With Kai Havertz still on the sidelines, and Gabriel Jesus not yet ready for 90 minutes, Viktor Gyokeres started through the middle, alongside Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Eberechi Eze was chosen ahead of Martin Odegaard for the clash, but with Rob Edwards’ side sitting back deep into their own half, the Gunners struggled to break down their opponents.

Arsenal fans are already fed up with Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal would eventually go on to score twice in the second half, but with both goals going down as own goals, they only just got past Wolves in a 2-1 after the visitors’ equaliser in the 90th minute.

In the first 45 minutes, Gyokeres had just five touches, completely flying under the radar, as the Gunners struggled to break down Wolves‘ resolute defence. He was offering nothing in the final third.

Compared to a “double-decker bus”, some fans were furious with his lack of ability with and without the ball, leading to multiple calls for the striker to be sold next month after arriving for £55million.

While he did get more involved in the second half, stretching the play against tired legs, the damage was already done, with fans wanting midfielder Mikel Merino on the pitch instead.

The Gunners’ opening goal would eventually come via a Sam Johnstone own goal, and their second from a Yerson Mosquera own goal, which said everything about their failed attack at the Emirates Stadium.

Gyokeres’ performance in numbers vs Wolves

Jesus made far more of an impact during his very limited time on the pitch, even though he didn’t get his name on the teamsheet, but his movement made enough chaos to ensure the ball hit the back of the net.

Gyokeres, however, during his 81 minutes on the pitch, had 15 touches of the ball, completed three passes, completed zero of his dribbles, and won 50 per cent of his total duels [FotMob].

He was completely invisible for much of the game, enraging supporters, and almost ruining the Gunners’ chances to extend their gap at the top of the Premier League table before Man City‘s game.

Pep Guardiola‘s side could lose to Crystal Palace on Sunday, 14 December, and dropping any points against the league’s bottom team would have been the most disappointing result.
