Kris Commons, Efe Ambrose and Kristoffer Ajer have been left out of Celtic’s Champions League squad.

The Scottish giants announced their 24-man squad on Thursday and it was notably missing the senior trio.

Ambrose, 27, turned down a deadline day move to Belgian top flight side Standard Liege.

Following his move from Israeli Premier League side FA Ashod in 2012 he has featured in 169 matches and has one more year left on his contract.

Commons, 33, has also entered the final year of his deal after a move from Derby in 2011.

The talented winger has made 227 appearances for the club during his time in Scotland.

Centre midfielder Ajer, 18, only moved to Celtic Park this summer after joining from Norwegian side Start.

The youngster has featured in just one game under Brendan Rodgers and it looks like he will have to develop more to get in the senior side.

Injured duo Gary Mackay-Steven and Jozo Simunoivc have been included in the Champions League squad.

The Scottish giants have been drawn in the same group as Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach in Europe’s elite competition.

In other Celtic team news, Jozo Simunovic has told supporters that his deadline-day move to Torino collapsed because the Italian club “wanted to change the initial agreement” at “the last minute.”
