Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to make three changes to his team to face Newcastle United at Wembley on Wednesday night.

After losing 1-0 to West Brom at the weekend, Pochettino could decide to axe the senior duo of Danny Rose and Erik Lamela after poor performances in the Black Country.

Ben Davies and fan favourite Son Heung-min may return to the starting line-up while Jan Vertonghen is an injury doubt, so he could miss out with Eric Dier returning in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Hugo Lloris is expected to retain his place between the sticks on Wednesday behind what is now likely to be a back-four of Kieran Trippier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Davies.

Pochettino used his preferred three-at-the-back system at The Hawthorns, but due to injury to Vertonghen and the fact his side lost, it’s likely that he will have to revert to a back-four.

Dier could partner Victor Wanyama in the centre of midfield as Mousa Dembele may not yet be fit to return from his spell on the sidelines.

Son is expected to join Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the attacking midfield positions behind centre-forward Harry Kane, who will be hoping to get back to goalscoring ways against Newcastle after firing a blank against a rigid West Brom defence on Saturday.

In other Tottenham news, this Spurs centre-back has confirmed that he is open for offers in the summer – but it’s not Toby Alderweireld.
