Senior Everton man struggling to be fit for Crystal Palace clash - report

By Will Butcher

Everton stalwart Leighton Baines is unlikely to feature against Crystal Palace on Friday night, according to a report.

Baines, 31, picked up a hamstring problem and missed Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Bournemouth through the injury, and was replaced by Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo.

The Daily Express claims that Baines is unlikely to return before Friday night’s Premier League encounter against Alan Pardew’s side, as the problem continues to persist.

The former Wigan left-back had played in all five of the Toffees’ opening Premier League matches, as Ronald Koeman’s side hit the round running with 13 points from 15.

Without Baines though, Everton lost their first game of the season to Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth at Dean Court thanks to a superb strike from winger Junior Stanislas.

Oviedo is expected to fill in for Baines at left-back for a second consecutive match, as the Toffees look to get back to winning ways. They will face a difficult task in beating Pardew’s Palace though, after the Eagles have picked up three domestic wins on the bounce.

Baines has been ever present for Everton since his move to Merseyside in 2007, and has made an impressive 346 league and cup appearances for the Toffees. The set-piece specialist has also scored 33 goals during his time at Goodison Park, adding another 58 in assists.
