Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez has confirmed that the La Liga giants are considering re-signing Gerard Deulofeu from Everton.

The Catalans reportedly have an option to buy the 23-year-old back from Merseyside for £10.2million, according to Spanish news outlet ESport3.

Deulofeu rose through the ranks of Barcelona’s academy before he secured a permanent move to Goodison Park in 2015.

However he has not been a key part of Ronald Koeman’s plans since he took charge of the club last summer and was shipped out on loan to AC Milan in the winter.

The attacker currently has two goals and three assists in 12 Serie A appearances.

“We consider Deulofeu as an option for the future,” said Fernandez, Barcelona’s senior figure, to ESport 3.

When he was asked if a move back to the Nou Camp was on the table he replied: “”Yes, yes. Absolutely yes.”

Deulofeu made 75 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists during his time at the club.

However, he made just 13 appearances this season under Koeman and didn’t score, only adding one assist to his tally.

The former Sevilla loanee had not featured in a Premier League game since October before he was given a lifeline by Milan.

Football Insider Verdict

Barcelona are desperate to rectify what has been a very poor season by their high standards. The current issue at the Nou Camp is that there is a huge lack of depth, especially in attacking areas. Deulofeu plays in the same positions as players like Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi so there’s no way he would get into their starting XI. But, he’s a Barcelona lad and he is likely to provide good back-up should injuries strike any of their mercurial front three. As for Everton, they probably never thought they would have Barca coming back in for the 23-year-old, especially after his lack of involvement at Goodison this season.
