Graeme Murty details role he will play in Rangers January transfer plan

Rangers interim boss Graeme Murty has revealed that director of football Mark Allen is responsible for identifying the club’s transfer targets in the January window.

Murty is in charge until the end of the month – at least – and could find himself in control even longer if the Rangers board are unable to find a suitable replacement for Pedro Caixinha.

The Gers sacked Caixinha on October 26th but are no closer to hiring his replacement after Derek McInnes’ public snub last week.

With the transfer window 20 days away from opening, Murty confirmed that he has given advice on the type of player the Gers need but admitted he had no say in picking the targets.

“Our recruitment department and Mark are looking at targets and players who fit certain positions,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

“As January gets closer you’d have to speak to Mark.

“I not involved in indentifying targets, I am involved in identifying characteristics and positions that need strengthening.

“The recruitment department identify the targets.”

Director of football Allen recently unveiled a revamp of the club’s scouting team with Andy Scoulding, Dave Swanick and John Brown joining the club’s recruitment department.

The Gers are currently in second place in the Scottish Premiership after recording three consecutive wins for the first time in over a year.

The Light Blues travel to Edinburgh to take on Neil Lennon’s Hibs at Easter Road on Wednesday night and will be desperate to continue their run of fine form going and put pressure on leaders Celtic.

Since Caixinha’s sacking, the Gers have close the gap to Celtic to five points and face a trip to Celtic Park on December 30th.
