Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has said that his side need to fear the threat posed by Leeds United’s attacking quartet in this weekend’s Yorkshire derby.
The Owls travel to Elland Road looking to pick up a double over the Whites after a Gary Hooper brace fired them on their way to a 3-0 victory at Hillsborough, while Paul Heckingbottom’s men will be trying for just their second win of 2018, a barren run which stretches back to Boxing Day.
However Luhukay, who arrived at Wednesday back in January, has been left raving over the talents of the forward line at Elland Road, and has issued a bold challenge to Leeds to put in a passionate display in a bid to overcome his side.
He was quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying: “They have unbelievable offensive quality.
“All four strikers are very effective. We have a lot of work on Saturday to stop their quality.
“It will be an interesting game. I think in a derby you must have the passion and a winning mentality to get a good result.
“Both sets of fans will give 100 per cent support, so we must give everything we have.”
Both sides come into the clash off the back of draws, with the Owls conceding a late equaliser against Bolton and Leeds letting their own lead slip against Reading.
Football Insider verdict
While the Leeds attack have not been barren this season, it is something of an overstatement to call them “unbelievable”. They certainly have not been firing on all cylinders and perhaps it is the threat, rather than their recent performances, which Luhukay is alluding to. Still, if any one of them could put in a starring role, then Wednesday might actually be in some serious trouble. However it is not just the forward line who need to put in a decent shift, and all of the starting XI need to lift their games after some disappointing displays. If they can do so, then win number two of 2018 could be on the cards.
In other Leeds United news, the fans have targeted the wrong man and need to slam midfield star for this farce.
