Senior Tottenham star makes bold demands of teammates, believes success is divine right
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris believes that the club “deserve” success and silverware and has demanded that his teammates help him secure trophies over the coming years.
The Lilywhites have transformed themselves from hopefuls for European qualification to title challengers and heavyweights of the Premier League over the past couple of years, but are without a major title to their name for a decade.
Their 2008 League Cup win was the last trophy Spurs picked up, and have the chance to go one step better than last season after reaching the semi finals of the FA Cup once again, where they will face Manchester United.
Now Lloris has revealed he believes that success is the club’s divine right thanks to their style of play, and has urged his team mates to ensure they live up to expectation.
He told the Associated Press, as quoted by the London Evening Standard: “I think we deserve a trophy – just because we play so attractive football.
“I think people enjoy the way we play because we are a very positive team with a lot of energy.

“We have all the same ambition, just to win something and try to put this club at the highest level in football.
“I think we are going in the right way. We need to win trophies.”

Perhaps something has been lost in translation by Lloris because his comments come across as sensationally arrogant. The teams who deserve a trophy are the ones who pick it up at the end of a competition, and while he is right about many neutrals enjoying the style of Tottenham’s play, it does not give them any more right to success than any other side. On the other hand, it could well have been a sly dig at Manchester United for what has been perceived to be a negative approach from Jose Mourinho recently, suggesting Spurs are the more exciting side and deserve to reach the final. Still, the Red Devils will pose a serious threat to the Lilywhites’ silverware hopes, and defeat would be a bitter disappointment for either side.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been handed a major boost in their hopes of keeping a key man this summer.
