Sergio Reguilon: '£22m' Tottenham transfer claim issued after approach - pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to take a “£6million” hit on Sergio Reguilon this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the Lilywhites would be “lucky to break even” on the 24-year-old.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (28 April) Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for Reguilon and that a Spanish club have registered their interest.

As reported by the Independent in 2020, the Spain international cost Spurs £27million when he joined from Real Madrid.

Whelan suggested the north Londoners would accept £20million to move him on this summer.

“I think they’ll be lucky to break even,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“Round about the £20million mark, £22million, is what you’re going to get.

“That’s because he’s not been playing consistently, the inconsistent performances as well, in and out of the side.

“I think that’s what you’re going to be looking at and it’d be a fair reflection on the player, to be quite honest.

“If the money’s right for certain players, they will leave.

“I think Tottenham would be happy to lose £5-6million to get in somebody that the manager wants himself, his own players.”

Reguilon has played 67 times across all competitions for Spurs so far.

He is contracted in north London until the summer of 2025.

The left-back has made 31 appearances this season, with two goals and three assists under his belt.

He has the likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies for competition on the left-hand side of the defence.
