Sergio Reguilon backed to re-join his former club soon after quitting Tottenham

Sergio Reguilon has been available on a free transfer since leaving Tottenham in July and Everton are among the clubs to have considered making a move.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Reguilon could return to the Premier League as clubs eye the free agent market for reinforcements.

Despite Thomas Frank’s decision to part ways with the 28-year-old, there is not thought to be any shortage of interest in his availability after the window closed.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Sevilla and Real Sociedad are the front-runners for his signature as things stand.

Sources say Reguilon could favour a return to his home country following a difficult spell in England, while interest from Premier League clubs including Everton is not guaranteed.

Sergio Reguilon eyes return to Spain with two clubs racing

Football Insider revealed on 16 September that Everton could be forced into the free agent market after suffering injuries in both full-back spots.

Interest from the Toffees alongside other Premier League clubs is likely to depend on whether they are in desperate need of reinforcements, leading to questions about his situation.

Reguilon is one of ten valuable free agents still available, and he has now been tipped to return to top-flight football after two months out of the game.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I revealed: “He’s had a disappointing couple of years, Reguilon, after he couldn’t establish himself in the Spurs team.

He had a couple of loan spells away at Man United and Brentford, but again didn’t really rip up any trees on those loan moves.

A lot will depend on whether any Premier League clubs are in desperate needs of reinforcements at the back due to injury issues.

“Right now, I think probably more likely is that maybe Reguilon could end up returning to his native Spain, where there’s been talk of interest from his old club Sevilla and Real Sociedad as well.

“So I think that’s probably going to be more likely for Reguilon if he is to move soon.

“But you never know what’s around the corner, if a Premier League clubs picks up injuries or suspensions and are in desperate need of reinforcements, Reguilon could be somebody they turn to.”

The likes of Everton and other clubs linked with the Spaniard could now be set to miss out, with a return to his home country most likely for the left-back.

Vitaliy Mykolenko provides fitness boost for Everton

Despite suggestions that Everton may be forced to enter the free agent market with the window closed, they received a huge boost with Vitaliy Mykolenko‘s fitness.

The left-back started Everton’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on 20 September, and while it wasn’t his best display, his return was a welcome addition.

While new arrival Adam Aznou has yet to feature for the senior side due to ongoing issues, the Ukraine international’s return came as a welcome boost.

As a result, Moyes is planning to set his sights on alternative positions while their priority remains to keep hold of their star players in January.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 21 August that Everton will not entertain offers for Jarrad Branthwaite despite interest from Man United and Liverpool.
