Report: Euro giants plot £26.7m bid for CL defender after confirmed Liverpool approach

By Danny Wright

Inter Milan are plotting a big money bid for confirmed Liverpool target Dalbert, according to a report.

Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato claims that the European giants are readying an offer of £26.7million for the Nice defender, who featured off the bench in their 1-1 draw with Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

It is understood that Nice previously valued their left-back at £17.8million, but the report adds that Inter want to get a deal done as soon as possible as Nice are looking to keep him in their squad as they attempt to reach the Champions League group stages.

Dalbert, 23, has already confirmed in an interview that Liverpool had made an approach to his agent at the end of what was an impressive season for the left-back last time out.

He was quoted by the Express in last week as saying: “We had a fantastic season and it was only natural that proposals arrived.

“My agent was contacted by over 10 European clubs, including Liverpool and Inter, who progressed in their desire to have me in the squad.”

The Brazilian, formerly of Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal, was in stunning form for Nice last season as he supplied four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

His strong performances came mostly at left-back, although Dalbert is also proficient at playing in a more advanced role on the left wing.

His Nice side shocked French football last season as they secured qualification for Champions League football by achieving a third-place finish in Ligue 1, behind Monaco and Paris St. Germain.

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool have already acquired one left-back this summer in Andrew Roberston, but it definitely will not hurt them to add another to their ranks. However the money that Inter look to be stumping up is something that the Reds should try to avoid. Dalbert has only had one good season and it remains to be see whether he is a viable option going forward. Robertson is likely to be Jurgen Klopp’s starting left-back and it’s likely that he will be annoyed if another player is brought in straight away to give him competition. James Milner is still about who can do a good job in the position while Alberto Moreno is yet to be flogged. Klopp should stay well clear of signing Dalbert.

In other Liverpool news, this midfielder has left Anfield for a top-flight European club.
