Even the arrival of joint-bottom placed side Sunderland to Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday couldn’t halt the Whites miserable form.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side have been going through the motions for most of the season and despite early hopes of a promotion challenge, they have become middle-table fodder at best.

Three points ought to have been expected against the Black Cats but the North East club played with a grit, determination, and flair that Leeds themselves could have done with displaying.

As a result, Chris Coleman’s side took the lead with a Paddy McNair half-volley just after the break.

But Pablo Hernandez spared Leeds blushes – not for the first time this season – with a sublime curled effort as the game went into its final stages – his ninth of the campaign.

It was a game which saw Leeds’ U23 product Bailey Peacock-Farrell show exactly why he had been handed his promotion to the first-team, with another man-of-the-match display.

After the result, the 21-year-old Tweeted, “Happy to get another man of the match yesterday. We deserved more from the game #lufc #mot.”

But Leeds fans questioned the Darlington-born stopper’s statement, with many of them feeling that their team did not deserve to come away with more than the one point they gained from the fixture.
