Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Peterborough goal machine Jack Marriott and could make a bid for the centre-forward in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday may also make offers for Marriott, who has scored a stunning 32 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions this season.
It is understood that League One promotion chasers Peterborough will demand a seven-figure fee worth £5million plus add-ons for the former Luton striker with him expected to attract major interest in the summer thanks to his prolific displays in front of goal.
Marriott is said to have been the subject of a rejected £4million bid in January and has also gained attention from the Premier League.
Football Insider verdict
Marriott has been on fire this season with a goal scoring record that will really get clubs talking ahead of the summer. Leeds simply have to make an effort to sign him because the 23-year-old could be the difference between them floundering in the bottom half or challenging for promotion. If Marriott is able to replicate his run of form in the Championship then surely his value will rise exponentially and be able to fire Leeds up the table, much like Chris Wood did last term. It will be a surprise to not see a team with better finances attempt to pull off a move though. Teams like West Brom, Stoke and Southampton could all be relegated to the second-tier and they would be stupid to not have a look themselves.
In other Leeds United news, a £1.5million deal has been agreed for this defender wanted by the Whites.
