Seven Rangers rookies named in squad

Seven players from the Rangers Youth Academy have been selected for the Under-19 Scotland national squad.

Rangers Under-20 goalkeepers Aidan McAdams and Kieran Wright were called up alongside fellow teammates Jordan Houston, Lewis Mayo, Aidan Wilson, Jamie Barjonas and Zak Rudden.

The Scottish FA announced the official announced the 20-man squad on their official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

The squad are set to participate in an international tournament in Serbia at the end of the month.

Scotland will face the hosts followed with a match against Ukraine before potentially competing in a final on September 4.

Each member of the seven Rangers players have represented Scotland at the Under 16 and Under 17 level but this will be the first time where they will feature for the Under-19 squad.

McAdams, Houston and Barjonas all featured for the Rangers Colt team who were dumped out of the Irn-Bru Cup by Dumbarton on Wednesday night.

The Rangers players involved in the squad will be desperate to make their mark as Scotland have disappointed in the past at Under-19 level, failing to make the group stages of the European Championship since 2006.

The seven youngsters will be hopeful that Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha will keep an eye on their performances as they look to eventually break into the first-team.
