'I'm pretty certain' - Shearer delivers expectations from Newcastle v Liverpool
By Russell Edge
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has said that he is expecting goals from the Magpies’ clash with Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds will arrive at St James’ Park to be greeted by former manager Rafael Benitez, having led the club back to the top flight from the Championship last season.
Newcastle suffered defeat in their last outing, with the 1-0 loss to Brighton ending a run of three successive victories.
Liverpool’s last Premier League game was a 3-2 victory away at Leicester City, while they also had a midweek Champions League tie away at Spartak Moscow which finished 1-1.
Premier League record holder Shearer, who scored eight goals against the Reds during his career, believes that fans watching Sunday’s clash should expect goals, insisting that both sides will have chances to score.

“Newcastle, I’m sure, because of the way Liverpool play, will get chances. It’s just a matter of whether they can take them or not.

“Newcastle had a disappointing performance and result last weekend.
“Liverpool (v Leicester) played very much like Liverpool have been all season – conceding goals, making it difficult for themselves, creating a lot of chances.”
Newcastle currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League table, level on points with Burnley, West Brom and Huddersfield on nine.
Liverpool meanwhile sit just two points ahead in sixth place, knowing defeat will see them leapfrogged by Benitez and his side, while victory would see them go level on points with third placed Tottenham.
