Shearer reveals crucial factor which will be 'vitally important' in Tottenham CL hopes

Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer has said that Tottenham being drawn at home for the second leg of their Champions League tie against Juventus could be ‘vitally important’.

Spurs have been in imperious form in Europe this season, finishing top of their four team group which included both reigning champions Real Madrid and German giants Borussia Dortmund, as well as Cypriot side Apoel Nicosia.

They managed to go unbeaten in the group stage, picking up five wins and a draw, which included impressive 3-1 victories over both Real and Dortmund at Wembley, and Premier League legend Shearer believes that home advantage in the second leg of the first knock out round, which pits Spurs against last season’s losing finalists Juventus, could prove to be a crucial factor.

Speaking to betting agency Coral on their official Twitter account, he said: “Spurs have been absolutely magnificent and the results prove that they can mix it at that level.

“That is a very difficult draw for them. Wembley for the second leg, which could prove to be vitally important.

“Tottenham have a very, very good squad and with those results against Madrid, they will feel as though they belong in that tournament.”

Spurs have already bettered their European performances from last season, where they finished third in their Champions League group, before being dumped out of the Europa League in the knock out stage by Belgian side Gent.

They have never faced Juventus in a competitive clash before, with the first leg being held in Turin on the 13th of February.

In other Tottenham news, Michael Owen has said that an impressive streak will come to an end in Saturday’s showdown against Manchester City.
