Sheffield United can thrive when takeover is completed – Ex-PL CEO
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes Sheffield United need ‘new owners with deep pockets’ amid the club’s current financial problems.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested that fans understand that their current owner is not cut out for the Premier League.
The Blades are currently on the brink of relegation after one season back in the Premier League.
Wyness previously told Football Insider that Sheffield United are well-placed for a summer takeover at a ‘good price’ if they are relegated.
The Yorkshire side have struggled to invest in their playing squad since returning to the top flight and now face a two-point deduction for failing to pay transfer fees on time.
Sheffield United need new ‘deep pocket’ owners this summer
Speaking on the Football Insider Inside Track Podcast, Wyness suggested that the current ownership at Bramall Lane does not have the financial strength to compete in the Premier League.
“I don’t feel for Sheffield United fans because they understand that the owner does not have deep pockets to play the Premier League game,” he said.

“He has been honest and it seems that they can appreciate that.
“It’s a great club and I think they need new owners with deep pockets – if they can do that I believe Sheffield United can keep moving forward.“
