Sheffield United news: Charlie Goode set for three-match ban as ex-Premier League referee analyses controversial footage
Charlie Goode’s sending off as Sheffield United beat Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night (23 February) was a “textbook red card”, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee admitted he was stunned Goode thought he would be able to get away with his challenge on Reda Khadra.
In the second-half, Khadra received the ball on the halfway line and after a quick turn, he was unable to progress after a crunching tackle from Goode.
It was a nightmare full debut for the defender who moved to Bramall Lane from Brentford on loan in the January transfer window.
He will now serve a three-game suspension – a much-deserved ban, according to Hackett.
He said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “That is an absolutely nailed on red card.
“I do not understand, this is a player they’ve just brought in and it is his first start.
“You cannot launch yourself off the ground with one or two feet forward and believe you’re going to get away with it. I don’t understand what his thinking was.
“The outcome was always going to be a red card. Has he not played for a bit? Is this his first game for a few weeks.
“He’s moving at pace, he’s absolutely nailed the criteria. It was a textbook red card.
“Now he’s out the games, that will be three matches.”

Goode will be unavailable for Sheffield United’s next three Championship games.
That starts tomorrow (26 February) when the Blades travel to Millwall before home games with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.
