Sheffield United slammed by pundit as ‘terrible’ concern arises

Sheffield United have been warned that they will finish nowhere near the playoff places amid their woeful start to the Championship season.

Despite transfer interest from Leeds, Sheffield United successfully retained star man Gustavo Hamer in the summer window.

However, the Blades have lost all four of their opening Championship fixtures and sit at the bottom of the second tier.

Amid growing pressure on Ruben Selles at Bramall Lane, former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has been linked with the Sheffield United job.

Sheffield United warned they will miss out on the top six

After failing to win promotion last season, Sheffield United sacked Chris Wilder, who remained popular among large sections of the fan base.

However, Wilder’s replacement, Selles, has steered the South Yorkshire side to five consecutive defeats across all competitions.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Friday, 12 September, Jason Cundy warned: “I think they should be concerned. I don’t think they’re going to go down, but be concerned that they’re not going to be anywhere near challenging for those playoff places minimum.

“I saw them against Bristol City first game of the season. Bristol City were excellent, Sheffield United were dog. They were terrible.

“I’ve not seen anything yet. Hugely worrying because the squad was built for Chris Wilder. He’s a damn good manager, and he knows that club.

“For them to have relieved him of his duties at the time where they were so close, and then to go from that into Selles and it to start this way, if things don’t improve dramatically, he is under pressure now.”

Ipswich Town clash is vital for Ruben Selles

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Sheffield United made a last-ditch bid for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised.

Sheffield United are in poor form

The 22-year-old winger excelled while on loan at Bramall Lane from Crystal Palace last term, notching seven goals and two assists in 35 Championship appearances.

However, the Blades will now have to turn their form around without the help of the former Charlton Athletic man.

Meanwhile, to prove his doubters wrong, Selles must ensure that Sheffield United avoid defeat against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on 12 September.

The Tractor Boys have made a slow start to the Championship campaign after suffering relegation from the Premier League last term, enduring three draws and one defeat in four second-tier fixtures.

Therefore, Selles has a major opportunity to steer the South Yorkshire club to victory against Kieran McKenna’s side, who are in a similarly poor run of form in the Championship.
