Sheffield United slammed for ‘crazy’ decision as Ruben Selles sack looms
Sheffield United have been heavily criticised for one particular decision as Ruben Selles is under increasing risk of getting sacked.
Selles has been under increasing criticism at Sheffield United following his side’s poor start to the Championship season.
The threat looming over Selles was increased during Sheffield United’s match against Ipswich Town as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted in the crowd at Portman Road.
A crushing defeat away at Ipswich made it five losses from their first five matches of the season, with Selles now at risk of being let go at Bramall Lane.

Ruben Selles’ job at risk
Sheffield United parted ways with the legendary Chris Wilder this preseason despite the club making the Championship playoff final last season.
Sheffield United journalist Darren Witcoop took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise the decision, as the Blades continued their poor start under Selles.

Witcoop said: “Replacing Chris Wilder was always a crazy decision by Sheffield United. But no way Ruben Selles stays much longer. Shadow of the side of last season.”
Witcoop’s sentiments were repeated in the stands at Portman Road with the Sun’s Justin Allen reporting: ““We want Selles out” – sang from the Sheffield United fans here!”
Sheffield United must act quickly to reclaim form
It has been a catastrophic start for Selles, who inherited a squad not too dissimilar to the one that Wolder achieved near-promotion with last campaign.
However, a string of abysmal results has left the club bottom of the Championship table, with no points and only one goal, just five games on from their Wembley defeat to Sunderland.
Team | Wins | Draws | Losses | GD | PTS |
Leeds United | 18 | 4 | 1 | +65 | 100 |
Burnley | 14 | 9 | 0 | +53 | 100 |
Sheffield United | 15 | 4 | 4 | +27 | 90 |
Sunderland | 12 | 7 | 4 | +14 | 76 |
Coventry City | 14 | 3 | 6 | +6 | 69 |
Bristol City | 13 | 7 | 3 | +4 | 68 |
As the Steel City club’s form took a further nosedive in their defeat to Ipswich on Friday night, the club will have to look to move urgently in an attempt to wrestle back control of Selles’ side’s woeful form.
The prospect of Selles remaining at the club beyond the end of the weekend seems bleak for Blades fans, and many will feel now is the time for urgent change.
