Sheffield United well placed for summer takeover at ‘good price’ – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Sheffield United will be well-placed for a takeover if their relegation to the Championship is confirmed.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested relegation would give a potential owner “the chance to get a real asset at a good price”.
Sheffield United, who are currently owned by Saudi Arabian Prince Abdullah, are widely expected to drop into the second tier at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
The Blades are 10 points from safety with six games left of this season and are winless in their last eight games.
Finance guru Kieran Maguire told Football Insider on Tuesday (16 April) that Prince Abdullah has been looking for an “exit route” at Bramall Lane since the 2022-23 campaign.
Sheffield United relegation could open door for new investment at Bramall Lane, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the Yorkshire side have a good chance of bouncing straight back to the Premier League for the 2025-26 campaign.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They should have a decent chance of coming back up.
“They’ve got the parachute payments to come in, and I know they’re still trying to negotiate new ownership.
“They haven’t been successful yet, but I believe at Championship level – it’s a good asset.
“At Premier League level, it’s a stretch because they don’t have the security.

“Certainly, buying them in the Championship with the assets and quality they have – it’s a great chance of coming up.
“It may give a potential owner the chance to get a real asset at a good price.”
