Sheffield Wednesday could lose five stars as crisis takes new twist
Sheffield Wednesday could lose up to five more stars after their ongoing crisis has taken a new twist.
There has been plenty of uncertainty at Hillsborough over the past few months as pressure continues to grow on owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club.
Chansiri is understood to be looking for around £100million to sell the Owls this summer, but questions have been asked about that valuation.
Finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider Wednesday are only worth around £70million due to their ongoing issues.
John Textor has been linked with a potential takeover, but a deal has so far failed to materialise.
The American billionaire recently sold his shares in Crystal Palace to compatriot Woody Johnson, with the deal believed to be worth close to £190million.
Textor owns majority stakes in French club Lyon, Brazilian first division outfit Botafogo and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek through Eagle Football Holdings.

Sheffield Wednesday sold star in cut-price deal
Wednesday have been placed under a three-window transfer embargo by the EFL after Chansiri failed to pay the wages on three separate occasions last season.
The Owls have already seen several high-profile players leave after their owner failed to meet the wage obligations in both May and June.
First-team stars Josh Windass, Djeidi Gassama and Michael Smith have all left South Yorkshire in recent weeks, while Akin Famewo and Callum Paterson’s exits have now also been confirmed.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Rangers secured a cut-price deal for Gassama, with the transfer worth just £2.2million after he expected it to be in excess of £5million.
The 21-year-old winger, who made the move to Hillsborough from PSG in August 2023, has scored in each of his first two games for the Gers in their Champions League qualifiers against Panathinaikos.
Sheffield Wednesday exits on the cards after Dejphon Chansiri latest
In a new development, BBC Radio Sheffield’s Andy Giddings reported on Wednesday (30 July) the Owls players have been informed they will not be paid on time for their July wages.
He added there is now a possibility they could refuse to play as a consequence.
That means more exits could be on the cards at Hillsborough over the coming weeks, with just 15 senior players left in the squad.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see four or five more stars push for an exit as they look for more stability elsewhere.
It was confirmed earlier this week former manager Danny Rohl has left Wednesday, with Henrik Pedersen appointed as his successor ahead of the start of the new season.
The Owls are set to face Leicester City in their opening fixture on 10 August.
