Sheffield Wednesday handed ‘no future’ warning amid Dejphon Chansiri chaos
Sheffield Wednesday have been issued a stark warning regarding their future amid Dejphon Chansiri’s continued financial mismanagement.
The Owls enjoyed a relatively comfortable campaign last term, finishing 12th in the second tier in Danny Rohl’s first full season in charge.
However, Sheffield Wednesday now face severe uncertainty as players and staff are still awaiting the payment of May’s wages.
Owner Chansiri is facing calls to leave the South Yorkshire club, while defender Akin Famewo could join Championship newboys Charlton Athletic.

Chansiri ownership slammed by former Sheffield Wednesday manager
Despite failing to meet last month’s wage obligations, Chansiri rejected an offer to buy Sheffield Wednesday from an American consortium.
Meanwhile, as reported by BBC Sheffield’s Rob Staton via X, former Wednesday player and manager Chris Turner told supporters at a fans’ meeting on Wednesday, 11 June: “There’s no future with that guy (Chansiri) in charge.”
Thanks to the Owls’ financial plight, boss Danny Rohl could leave Hillsborough even though he was previously linked with the Rangers job, now occupied by Russell Martin.

Chansiri must leave for Wednesday to progress
The South Yorkshire club currently find themselves in a precarious predicament thanks to the off-field chaos overseen by Chansiri.
Opponent | Result |
Middlesbrough (H) | 2-1 W |
Portsmouth (H) | 1-1 D |
Watford (A) | 1-1 D |
Largely courtesy of the Thai businessman’s financial mismanagement, Rohl is intent on leaving Wednesday despite overseeing a relatively successful time in the Hillsborough dugout.
The German’s seemingly inevitable departure will be highly damaging to the Owls, and could even see them dragged into a relegation battle next term.
Wednesday previously suffered relegation to League One under Chansiri’s reign in 2021, and failed to return to the Championship until their playoff final victory over South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in 2023.
The Owls faithful may now fear the worst again, while Barry Bannan could now leave Sheffield Wednesday, ending the outstanding decade of service he has given the Hillsborough club.
As a likely challenging season beckons next term, it is clear that the South Yorkshire side are unable to progress as long as Chansiri remains at the helm.
