Sheffield Wednesday in pole position to sign Rangers star Scott Wright – sources

Sheffield Wednesday lead Derby County and Preston North End in the race to sign Rangers winger Scott Wright, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants have told the former Aberdeen star, 26, he is free to find a new club this summer with a year left on his Ibrox deal.

Wright has held talks with Wednesday, Derby, and Preston, who are all keen on signing him permanently.

Rangers are likely to accept a fee of less than £1million to free up further space on their wage bill as their exodus intensifies.

Keemar Roofe, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Robbie McRorie, and John Lundstrom have all already left the club on a free as Rangers undergo a major squad overhaul this summer.

It’s unlikely to end there, Football Insider revealed (July 19) Rangers are also willing to sell star duo James Tavernier and Connor Goldson.

Rangers happy to let Scott Wright leave as mass exodus continues

Wright made the move to Rangers in 2021 and has gone on to make 117 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists.

Wright came close to signing for Turkish side Pendikspor last summer after a fee was agreed and he flew out for a medical.

In the end, he opted to stay put and fight for his place at the Ibrox but he has since been deemed surplus to requirements by Philippe Clement.

Rangers’ busy summer is set to continue, Football Insider revealed (July 20) that the club are readying a move for Plymouth Argyle forward Morgan Whittaker.

In other news, Rangers have set their price for goalkeeper Jack Butland.
