Sheffield Wednesday line up Premier League attacker after his latest deal was terminated

Sheffield Wednesday are plotting a move to sign Aston Villa youngster Zepiqueno Redmond on loan after his spell at Huddersfield Town was cut short.

Sheffield Wednesday have little chance of staying up in the Championship this season, so the rest of this campaign is more about pride and playing for the fans than anything else.

Their financial issues have seen them deducted a whopping 18 points from their total, meaning they sit bottom of the second tier on minus seven, 32 points away from safety.

The Owls have been searching for a new owner for nearly three months now, with James Bord named as the preferred bidder to take over soon, but a deal is not close to completion as it stands.

Henrik Pedersen is in real need of new additions to bolster his thin squad ahead of a likely tough few months, with Villa starlet Redmond potentially set to move to Hillsborough before the transfer window shuts.

Wednesday revive summer interest in Villa attacker Redmond

Redmond joined Villa from Feyenoord last July, and instantly went out on loan to League One side Huddersfield despite interest from Wednesday.

A knee injury restricted him to making just three appearances for the Terriers, and he last featured in September before being recalled to Villa Park earlier this week.

The Star’s George Smith has now reported that the Owls have rekindled their interest in the 19-year-old attacker as they look to try and strengthen their squad.

Wednesday have been permitted by the EFL to make two free loan signings before the 2 February deadline.

They will feel confident of striking a deal for Redmond this month, after they were considered as an appealing option for him in the summer, but their financial situation saw the deal collapse.

Wednesday could be forced to accept Bailey Cadamarteri offer amid Hibernian interest

Pedersen has seen several of his first-team players suffer injuries in recent weeks, meaning his already thin squad has been depleted further as they aim to end a 20-game winless run this weekend against Portsmouth.

They will want to get Redmond’s signing over the line as quickly as possible, so he is registered in time for Saturday’s clash, but his arrival may well coincide with the departure of another attacker in Cadamarteri.

Hibernian submitted a £1million bid to sign Cadamarteri last week, but their approach was rejected, with the Owls looking for a bigger fee despite their financial issues.

Blackburn are now expected to bid more for Cadamarteri as they aim to bolster their forward line in the battle to stay up, and Wednesday could well cave in to a higher offer as they chase more cash to balance the books.
