Sheffield Wednesday man Marvin Johnson responds to latest Dejphon Chansiri twist

Marvin Johnson has seemingly fired a dig at owner Dejphon Chansiri as Sheffield Wednesday players and staff continue to await May’s wages.

Chansiri’s reign at the Owls helm has often been turbulent, as he failed to pay March’s wages until 7 April, as reported by BBC Sport.

Now that the Thai businessman has failed to deliver his financial obligations once again, Sheffield Wednesday have been charged for breaching EFL regulations.

Meanwhile, the South Yorkshire club will likely witness several player exits this summer, as Charlton Athletic eye a move for Akin Famewo.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Johnson appears to fire dig at Chansiri on social media

Johnson was a key player for the Owls in the 2024/25 Championship season, making 41 appearances, but the defender’s contract at Hillsborough expires this summer.

The 34-year-old appeared to fire a dig at Chansiri over Wednesday’s payment delay as he posted the famous meme of sitcom character Mr Bean looking at his watch on X.

Johnson has made over 160 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday since joining on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Manchester City transfer hands Sheffield Wednesday financial respite

The Owls are feeling the effects of Chansiri’s financial mismanagement, while experienced defender Johnson is set for the exit door.

Talisman Barry Bannan could also leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer, which would come as a major disappointment, as the former Scotland international has been a loyal servant in South Yorkshire for a decade.

Bannan proved he can still produce the goods at Championship level by scoring four goals and creating four assists in the 2024/25 league season.

But Manchester City are set to sign Caelan Cadamarteri, which will hand the Owls some much-needed financial respite in otherwise troubled times.

The teenage striker plays for Wednesday’s Under-16 side, and did not make a senior appearance for the Championship club ahead of his imminent move to the Premier League title hopefuls.

Meanwhile, Chansiri recently rejected an offer to buy Sheffield Wednesday, much to the disappointment of supporters who want to see the end of his troubling reign.
