‘Rock bottom’ – Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at Dejphon Chansiri over Danny Rohl bombshell
Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the departure of Danny Rohl on Tuesday morning amid Dejphon Chansiri’s troubling ownership of the Championship club.
Former Owls boss Rohl steered the South Yorkshire outfit to a comfortable mid-table finish in the second tier last term.
But the 2024/25 campaign already feels like a distant memory for the Hillsborough faithful, who have subsequently witnessed their side endure financial turmoil this summer.
Thanks to Chansiri’s failure to pay wages on time, Sheffield Wednesday have seen the exits of star players such as Josh Windass.
Senior assets such as Callum Paterson and Michael Smith have also left Hillsborough, leaving the Owls with a thin squad ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign.
The fact that Paterson has joined League Two MK Dons instead of agreeing a new deal in South Yorkshire indicates the depth of the troubles overseen by Chansiri.
Rohl’s departure on 29 July now leaves Sheffield Wednesday facing the prospect of facing Leicester City in their Championship opener on 10 August without an experienced boss in the dugout.
The Hillsborough club’s previous assistant, Henrik Pedersen, is expected to inherit Rohl’s position.
Wednesday have confirmed that backroom staff Sascha Lense, Chris Powell, Neil Thompson, and Sal Bibbo have also departed.
The Owls faithful will now fear that a relegation battle beckons their side, while a trip to promotion hopefuls Leicester could be a baptism of fire for Pedersen.
Meanwhile, the mass exodus in South Yorkshire has not only affected Sheffield Wednesday’s first team, with academy starlet Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri joining Manchester City.
However, it is Rohl’s departure that will hurt the financially stricken Championship side the most, as they face an increasingly desperate scramble against an unwanted return to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters call for Chansiri exit as Rohl leaves
The Hillsborough outfit revealed via X on 29 July: “Sheffield Wednesday can confirm the departure of manager Danny Rohl by mutual consent.”
One supporter commented: “We really are at rock bottom. Thanks, Chansiri. Get out of our club!”
Another Owls fan said: “Wrong man departing! We wait.”
