Sheffield Wednesday ‘will accept £35m bid’ after takeover latest

A takeover of Sheffield Wednesday could be completed for £30million amid interest from up to six bidders.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has stated why the administrators will not be demanding more than £30m for Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have been in administration since October, and the club have been handed a further six-point deduction.

Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has launched a bid to takeover Sheffield Wednesday, who are almost certain to be playing in League One next season.

£30m could be ‘winning bid’ for Sheffield Wednesday

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – knows of five bidders for Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has given his take on the latest at Hillsborough.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’ve been keeping a close eye, of course. I mean, yeah, it’s another six points, which really doesn’t make that much difference because I think everybody agrees already they’re down. I think they’re on minus 10 there.

Look, I’ve been watching the whole process carefully. It does seem that we’re coming towards the end game. Claims of five or six bidders. I’m aware of at least five. I know the identities of at least five that have been in the media as well. Two local guys plus one American.

Who else have we got? We’ve got Mike Ashley, of course. And then the owner of FC Midtjylland, which is quite the interesting one. They have been very progressive and an interesting club. That would be a very interesting tie-up.

Now, we’re talking about £30 million plus is going to be something like the winning bid. I don’t think it will be that much above that because the administrator recognises that whoever comes in will have to spend a lot of money on stadium and the club itself. So they’re not going to push them, I don’t think beyond that, but certainly anything under £30 million wouldn’t be accepted. So we’re looking at £30m, £35m. And it’d be one of those groups.”

Bidders pull out of Sheffield Wednesday takeover

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan and businessman Ryan Howsam will not be bidding for Sheffield Wednesday.

The pair said they could not afford the club, which they believed they could have bought at a discounted price.

Sheffield Wednesday players will still be paid for December and January after a donation from a fan allowed the bills to be paid at the club.
