Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is wanted by Chinese side Beijing Sinobo Guoan with the Asian side prepared to more than double the player’s current wages this February in a ‘shock’ deal, according to a report.
The Sun says that the Super League side will offer the Belgian a three-year deal worth £160,000-per-week in order to lure the 30-year-old to the Chinese top-flight.
China’s transfer window does not shut until the end of this month – as it stands no official bid has come through.
Dembele had only recently regained his place in the Spurs line-up following a spell on the sidelines through injury and there were suggestions in some quarters that the player was past his best and no longer needed by the club.
However, he has been one of the Lillywhite best performers since of late and the report states that the North London outfit do not want to lose one of their star players whose current deal ends in the summer of 2019.
Important displays against Juventus, Arsenal, and Liverpool have only highlighted how key he is to the team.
Football Insider verdict:
With so much to look forward to for Tottenham, it is unlikely that any move, if any, will take place until the end of this season. Dembele will almost certainly want to take part in Spurs’ Champions League campaign and see how far they can go. The Belgium international was integral to a Spurs side that came from 2-0 behind on Tuesday night to draw with Italian giants Juventus 2-2 in Turin and were it not for the cool head he possesses the Lillywhites could have been well out of the game. Mauricio Pochettino and co. will know they cannot let the midfielder go now.
