Shocking mins-per-game stat exposes failure of Celtic transfer strategy

COMMENT
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has shockingly played more minutes than any other outfield player in Europe.
The Daily Record is reporting that the 21-year-old has played 3607 minutes so far this season – the equivalent of 40 games.
Interestingly, only Hoops goalkeeper Craig Gordon has played more minutes overall in Europe, having played 3780.
The Hoops have been in action since July, having to juggle Scottish Premiership fixtures, the Champions League qualification process and group stages, and Betfred Cup games in that time.
Celtic are currently in the middle of a much-needed winter break, as they head off to Dubai before returning to action against Brechin in the Scottish Cup on the 20th of January.
The shocking number of minutes played by Tierney exposes a mistake made by the Hoops in their squad building process.
It seems ridiculous that there is no other left-back to replace Tierney since the departure of Emilio Izaguirre in the summer.
The only other left-back on the books is Calvin Miller, who has rarely featured this season and is a converted striker.
In a way the Hoops have got lucky that Tierney hasn’t suffered any injuries so far this season, but the player must be in danger of burning out and it is vital that a left-back is signed in the January transfer window.
