‘Should be ashamed’ – Everton fans rip into ‘horrendous’ starter after what he did vs Bournemouth

Everton fans have taken to social media to lambast striker Thierno Barry after he missed two big chances and appeared to sulk after being taken off in their 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.

Everton were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth on Tuesday evening despite going ahead through Iliman Ndiaye‘s first half penalty.

Quickfire strikes from Cherries new boy Rayan and teammate Amine Adli just after the hour mark put the visitors into the lead, and they held on as Toffees defender Jake O’Brien was also sent off.

David Moyes put his faith in Barry to lead the line at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, after some strong recent performances and goals against both Aston Villa and Leeds United.

The Frenchman was unable to fire his side to victory, however, and was a big reason why they failed to take any points from the game.

Barry missed two big chances and sulked after being substituted

David Moyes backed Barry to find his feet after a tough start on Merseyside, and his persistence looked to have paid off after some impressive performances over the last month.

The Toffees decided against signing a new striker in January, as the 23-year-old and Beto were left to compete for a starting place up front, but they may well be regretting that choice after Tuesday’s match.

Barry’s first big chance came in the 30th minute when Djordje Petrovic spilt a James Garner free-kick into his path, but he was somehow unable to divert the ball goalwards from six yards out.

The other came after half time when Everton were still one up, as Ndiaye found Barry in the centre of the area with seemingly only the keeper to beat, but he hesitated and Alex Jimenez was able to block a weak effort.

His all round performance left a lot to be desired, as he completed 10 of 16 passes, committed two fouls and won just three of 11 combined ground and aerial duels.

Barry was spotted looking upset with his head in his hands after going off in the 62nd minute by The Athletic reporter Patrick Boyland, who posted about it on X, and many Toffees supporters fumed in his replies.

Everton fans slam Barry for poor showing in front of goal

Barry’s performances have generally improved recently, but he has still only scored five goals in 29 appearances for the club across all competitions this season.

Taking to X to reply to Boyland’s post, one fan said: “Probably looking down to see if he has his boots on the correct feet. One of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen pull on the shirt, said it from his first game. He runs like he’s on a penny farthing, yet a large proportion of fans have been saying he’s young, needs time, (needs to) bulk up etc.

While another replied: “Looks gutted? He needs to take a good look in the mirror. That’s the worst performance I’ve ever seen from a CF…we might as well (have) just played with 10 men from the off.”

And one supporter added: “Was hopeful on Barry but losing faith in him rapidly. Touch, finishing, pace, strength – absolutely nowhere near it for a Premier League CF.”
