Noel Whelan has ripped into Jack Harrison for his anonymous display in Leeds United’s 2-0 win over Barnsley.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider editor Wayne Veysey, the ex-United forward was unimpressed by the performance on the wing from the on-loan Manchester City star.
Whelan bemoaned Harrison for missing a gift-wrapped opportunity to put Leeds 1-0 up in first half at Oakwell and claimed his performance was put emphatically in the shade by substitute Helder Costa.
Harrison was named in the United starting XI yesterday for a seventh consecutive Championship match of the season but was withdrawn at half-time and replace by Costa.
“Harrison should be doing so much better,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He was invisible for most of the first half apart from when he missed a brilliant chance to put Leeds ahead.
“All he had to do was hit the target and it’s a goal. It was a dreadful finish. You could see the disappointment on his face, and it was the reason he didn’t come out for the second half.
“It was the right decision by Marcelo Bielsa as Helder Costa made an instant impact. He probably did more in his first five minutes of coming on that Harrison did in 45 minutes.”
Harrison has had the total faith of Bielsa this season but his seven league starts have yielded just a single goal – in the opening-day win at Stoke City – and no assists.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set to lose loan star in the January window after developments.
