Rangers could confirm the signing of a defender “hopefully this week” according to a club insider as Steven Gerrard continues to rebuild his squad.
Fansite Four Lads Had A Dream on Twitter, who have a solid record of breaking news from Ibrox, claimed the Gers could announce a deal for a defender this week when asked by a supporter if there were any updates.
Gerrard’s side have been linked with a number of players so far this summer and have had a number of bids rejected by Brighton for 25-year-old Connor Goldson, according to reports.
Should be word hopefully this week ????

Football Insider verdict:
Getting new defenders in needs to be a priority for Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen as the Gers prepare for pre-season getting underway on June 15th. The Ibrox giants gave away far too many cheap goals last term and tightening up their back-line is an absolute must this summer following the departures of David Bates and Russell Martin. With Bruno Alves at the World Cup with Portugal, it is almost certain that the veteran won’t be available for the Light Blues when they begin their Europa League campaign on July 12th leaving only Fabio Cardoso and Ross McCrorie as first-team centre-backs for Gerrard’s first competitive game in charge. Getting new faces in and up to speed will be crucial to the Ibrox giants’ success.
