Simon Jordan gives verdict on Aston Villa, takes dig at Midlands rivals

By Harvey Byrne

Outspoken former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has told that his money is on Aston Villa for promotion this season, describing them as a “proper club,” unlike their rivals.

The Villans boast a fine history, lifting the First Division title seven times alongside seven FA Cups and a European Cup in 1982.

However, recent years has been a struggle for the prestigious side and they are now preparing for their second season of Championship football after suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2016.

Steve Bruce’s side are currently one of the favourites to win promotion and Simon Jordan posted via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that he was backing Aston Villa for promotion, stating they are a “credit to the Midlands,” unlike some others.

It is thought that Jordan may have been referencing Villa’s fierce rivals Birmingham in his Tweet given he has taken swipes at them on numerous occasions, including suggesting that their survival guaranteed Bruce’s side six points in the next campaign.

May supporters of the Villa Park club will now be hoping that Jordan’s prediction rings true and Bruce will be looking for veteran trio John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Chris Samba alongside fellow new signings Ahmed Elmohamady and Sam Johnstone to help the side fulfil their aim.
