Simon Jordan makes bold Chelsea claim about Liam Delap
Former Crystal Palace Chairman Simon Jordan has made a brave statement about Chelsea’s Premier League title chances in the wake of the recent Liam Delap update.
The Blues will be more than content with the outcome of the 2024/25 season, after securing Champions League football.
Enzo Maresca’s side also picked up a European trophy, as Chelsea beat Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa Conference League final.
Trailing 1-0 at half time, the West London side produced a spirited comeback, with goals from Enzo Fernandes, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo turning the game around in Wroclaw.

Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League title
Chelsea finished 4th in the Premier League, 15 points behind a Liverpool side who won the title with four games to spare.
It was Maresca’s first year in charge of the two-time Champions League winners, and next season, he will hope to build on a strong first campaign.
Position | Team | Points |
1 | Liverpool | 84 |
2 | Arsenal | 74 |
3 | Man City | 71 |
4 | Chelsea | 69 |
Speaking live on talkSPORT (29 May), Jordan revealed that he thinks Chelsea can start to bridge the gap to Arne Slot’s side, but may not be ready to go all the way.
He said: “Could they make a serious challenge for the Premier League? They could make a challenge, but I don’t see them being ready to win the Premier League.
“It depends what they do in the summer, if they supplement, if they bring in centre forwards like they are supposedly going to do with Liam Delap.”
Delap set for Chelsea
Football Insider Verdict
Jordan’s comments come amid the news that Delap has chosen to move to Chelsea, rejecting the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest to join the Blues.
The transfer is close to being completed, as long as the £30million release clause in the Ipswich striker’s contract is met by Maresca’s side.
Delap scored 12 goals for the Tractor Boys, as the Suffolk side were relegated from the Premier League, finishing 19th.
There is no doubt that when surrounded by better players, the young striker could flourish further and hit 20-plus league goals.
Chelsea have been looking to replace Nicolas Jackson, after the 23-year-old once again failed to impress this season, managing only 10 league goals in 30 appearances.
The signing of Delap indicates that Jackson will be replaced in Maresca’s strongest starting lineup.
